10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium: A Milestone in Accounting Research

Between January 23rd and 25th, 2025, the Grudis Accounting Research Network hosted the first joint edition of the Grudis Conference and the Portuguese CSEAR conference, the 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium.

The event was held at the School of Public Management, Communication and Tourism of the Bragança Polytechnic University (EsACT-IPB) and built the interdisciplinarity between accounting, sustainability, and social responsibility.

The engaging conference program, which brought together over 70 participants, including academics, professionals, and doctoral students, was both thought-provoking and intellectually enriching. In total, thirty-eight (38) scientific papers and seven (7) doctoral projects were presented during the event in a collegial environment that encouraged debate, frank exchange of ideas, and the development of research networks.

Scientific sessions and renowned speakers

The program featured two international, esteemed keynote speakers, Professor Carlos Larrinaga (Burgos University) and Professor Christopher Koch (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz), delivering insightful and engaging plenary addresses. Another highlight of the event was the roundtable, in which Márcio Pereira, representing the Portuguese Order of Certified Accountants (OCC), Maria do Céu Silva, representing LIPOR, a leader in sustainability reporting, and Cláudia Teixeira (ISCAP-IPP) shared their views on the challenges facing sustainability reporting from their perspectives (i.e. the professional bodies, industry, academia). The roundtable enriched the conference with insights from practice, fostering critical reflection on the challenges faced by sustainability reporting.

The opening session included addresses by Teresa Eugénio on behalf of GECAMB/P-CSEAR | IPLeiria, Sónia Nogueira, the Director of EsACT-IPB and conference convenor member, and Aldónio Ferreira on behalf of the Grudis Network. They highlighted the event's significance for advancing knowledge in accounting and related fields. Orlando Rodrigues, President of IPB, and Pedro Nuno Ferreira, member of the Board of Directors of OCC, also addressed participants, emphasising the importance of collaboration between institutions and researchers to strengthen the impact of scientific research.

Recognition, sharing, and networking

One of the event's highlights was the awards ceremony, in which several outstanding contributions were recognised. In total, four awards were handed out, as follows:

  • Accounting and Management Review Award - Presented by Pedro Nuno Ferreira, OCC

  • Doctoral Colloquium Award - Presented by Iryna Alves, Grudis Early Career Researchers & Doctoral Students

  • Outstanding Reviewer Award: Professor Ana Maria Rodrigues - Presented by Ana Isabel Lopes, Standing Scientific Committee 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium;

  • Outstanding Paper Award: Professor Lúcia Lima Rodrigues - Presented by Sónia Nogueira, Standing Scientific Committee 10th GECAMB/P-CSEAR & XXIV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium.

In addition to the author presentations, the program featured several social gatherings that provided ample opportunity to strengthen bonds among participants, share experiences, and celebrate achievements. We highlight the cultural visit to the newly renovated Mirandela Railway Station and the Museum of Olive and Olive Oil (MOA), as well as dinners and lunches, which will remain in the attendees’ memories as a symbol of the unity and collaborative spirit of Grudis Network.

With this event, Grudis Network reaffirms its commitment to promoting high-quality research and creating spaces for scientific dialogue and development. The 2026 edition of the Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium will be at ISCTE- University Institute of Lisbon, continuing the pathway to strengthening research and its impact on academia and society.
