The XXV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium marks a significant milestone for Grudis Network – its 25th anniversary, celebrating a quarter-century of fostering excellence in accounting research. Over the years, the Grudis Conference has served as a cornerstone for scholars dedicated to advancing knowledge in accounting and related fields. The addition of the Doctoral Colloquium in 2016 has further strengthened the role of the event in supporting emerging scholars. The XXV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium embraces wholeheartedly this legacy and endeavours to continue on the path of excellence.
Held in Lisbon, the ‘City of Light’, the Portuguese capital welcomes the 2026 Grudis Conference and provides an inspiring setting. Known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere, Lisbon offers the perfect backdrop for insightful discussions, collaboration, and networking.
The event will feature a plenary address by a distinguished scholar which, together with the presentation of research papers and PhD projects, provides a setting for intellectually stimulating debate, free flow of ideas, and the invaluable feedback and insights from discussants and peers. The warmth and collegiality of Grudis Conferences creates the perfect setting for engaging conversations, developing professional networks, and exploring potential research collaborations.
We are warmly inviting accounting scholars, researchers, graduate students, and practitioners to join us in Lisbon for this special 25th-anniversary edition, the XXV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium.

On behalf of the Conference Committee, I am delighted to warmly welcome you to the XXV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium, hosted by Iscte Business School, one of the five schools of Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Founded in 1972 as the former Department of Management Sciences, Iscte Business School has grown into a distinguished institution recognised for its innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, international outlook, and academic excellence in both teaching and research. The School maintains strong ties with the business world, fostering collaboration and engagement with industry leaders. With a faculty distributed across six departments, including Accounting, and a diverse community of more than 3,500 students enrolled in seven undergraduate, 17 master’s, and three doctoral programmes, it continues to shape the future of business education. The School’s reputation is reflected in its accreditations by prestigious international bodies such as AACSB and AMBA, as well as its presence in globally renowned rankings, including the Financial Times and Eduniversal, where it consistently strengthens its national and international standing.
However, attending the Grudis Conference in Lisbon offers more than just an enriching scientific and learning experience. Lisbon is a city of contrasts, where history and modernity blend seamlessly. With its winding cobbled streets, historic monuments, and medieval castles, the city exudes an old-world charm, while its thriving contemporary art scene, vibrant street culture, and dynamic gastronomy make it a truly unique destination. The balance between listening to traditional fado music in the Alfama district and exploring cutting-edge galleries and urban art is a remarkable experience. Sunlight bathes Lisbon in a golden glow, giving the city an unparalleled brightness, while a walk along the Tagus River at sunset, with breathtaking views over both banks, offers a moment of tranquillity and reflection before returning to the rhythm of daily life.
This XXV edition marks a significant milestone—a Silver Jubilee, celebrating 25 years of dedication to the Grudis community and Accounting research. Over the years, this conference has become a pillar of academic excellence, fostering intellectual exchange, collaboration, and professional development. Iscte Business School has a strong track record of hosting prestigious international scientific meetings, and we are committed to ensuring that this special edition continues that legacy. You can expect a stimulating platform for high-quality academic discussions, as well as ample opportunities for networking and social engagement.
We are proud to have the continued support of the European Accounting Association (EAA) and the Order of Certified Accountants (OCC). Most importantly, we count on you – accounting scholars, researchers, graduate students, and all those with a passion for accounting research –to contribute to making this XXV Grudis Conference and Doctoral Colloquium a truly memorable and impactful event.
We warmly invite you to join us in Lisbon for this special anniversary edition, and we look forward to welcoming you in January 2026!
On behalf of the Organising Committee,
Ana Isabel Lopes
